Although many of the characteristic and practices date back for hundreds of years the laws and ethics of the religion only date back as far as the early part of the 20th century. Many people believe that Wicca is synonymous with witchcraft, that is not exactly true. Practitioners of Wicca do consider themselves to be witches, but not all witches practice Wicca. There are some witches who still believe and practice more ancient druidic rituals.

Wicca is a growing religion and by that I do not just refer to the number of people who are practitioners. The laws, tenants and moral codes vary greatly between witches and their covens. There are many different versions of the laws, spells and rituals.

Wicca is a modern version of witchcraft. It is also called The Craft or Witchcraft. Wicca is a recognized religion in the United States.

Practitioners of Wicca celebrate four major Sabbats, Candlemass, May Eve, Lammas and Halloween. They also celebrate four minor festivals which are known as the lesser Sabbats. The lesser Sabbats are Yuletide, Ostara, Litha and Mabon. Continue reading

monopoly housesThe biggest sell board game in history is the game of Monopoly. Monopoly has been on the market for over sixty years and has sold more than 200 million copies all over the world. It has been estimated that more than 500 million people have played the game.

The longest game of monopoly lasted for 1 680 hours. The longest game of monopoly in a bathtub went on for 99 hours. Monopoly records also include monopoly played upside down 36 hours, in a tree house 286 hours and underground 100 hours.

Parker Brothers started making Monopoly in 1935. There have been more than 200 million games sold around the world.

Monopoly is printed in 37 different languages and is available in 103 different countries.

The cartoon man on the box is actually named Mr. Monopoly. He used to be called Uncle Rich Pennybags. The policeman on the board is Officer Malloy. Officer Malloy is the one responsible for sending Jailbird Jake to prison. Continue reading

Canadian musician Alanis Nadine Morissete is not only a truly gifted singer, she has ventured into the world of television and movies a number of times. One of her roles was playing that of God in the 1999 film Dogma. This film is listed as a comedy/Drama.

Cher is one of the most successful people in both the world of acting and the world of music. Cher has not only had countless number one hits on the music charts, she has also managed to achieve Hollywood’s highest honor. In 1987, Cher won the best actress Oscar for her role in the film Moonstruck.

Alligator and Crocodile Attacks Trivia

Gator attacks golfer. In 2009, a man was attacked by an alligator while playing golf at the Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, South Carolina. Friends were able to pull the man away from the gator but he lost his arm in the struggle. The alligator was caught by a team from the Tracks Wildlife Control who then removed the arm from the animal’s stomach. The arm was shipped to the hospital with the hope that doctors would be able to reattach it.

Forty-nine year old Raymundo Velasco was hired to clean up the beaches around Lake Osborne, Florida. He said he was dragged into the water but somehow escaped. He then simply went back to work after putting on a makeshift bandage. It was a neighbor in the area, Anneli Kuebler, who noticed the injury and called a sheriff’s deputy for help. How does an Oyster make a pearl?

The first thing to know about oysters and pearls is that not all oysters make gem quality pearls and some species do not make pearls at all. There are two basic groups of oysters, edible oysters and pearl oysters.

Those that are edible, come from the Ostreidae family. Oysters in this family include the Pacific Oyster, the Wellfleet Oyster and the Belon Oyster. Edible oysters are often referred to as true oysters.

Pearl producing oysters are from the pteriidae or feather oyster family.
Oysters from this family are able to produce both natural and cultured pearls. Pearls are created when a foreign substance gets inside the shell of an oyster. The material is annoying and abrasive to the oysters unprotected soft body. The irritant is quite often a parasite that gets into an oysters shell and not a grain of sand., as many people believe. To counter this irritant the oyster begins to produce a substance called nacre. Nacre is better known as mother of pearl. The oyster covers the foreign material or parasite with layers and layers of nacre which forms a pearl.

A walrus on the iceThe North is home to some of the most unique and fascinating animals in the world. One these creatures is the walrus.  The walrus is subject to many legends and myths among the native communities of the north and has played an important role in their culture and daily lives.

A group of walruses is called a herd. The largest walrus herd lives in Foxe Basin, Canada. The herd is made up of more than 5 000 individuals. Animals move from one herd to another. If startled walrus herds will stampede.

Walrus babies are called calves. Calves weigh between 45 and 75 kg at birth and are able to swim. Most calves are born between April and June. Calves will stay with their mothers for up to five years.

The average weight for a male walrus is 1 400 kg. The average weight for a female walrus is 900 kg. They grow to be between 8 and 12 feet in length.

Benjamin Franklin Trivia

The man had almost no schooling and yet went on to become one of the most recognized and admired people in American history. He achieved success in many different areas including, politics, writing and science. His list of achievements cover everything from signing The declaration of Independence to inventing many items which are still in use today.

Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17th 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts. Ben was one of 17 children.

Ben’s father was unable to afford to send Ben to school for more than a year.

Benjamin designed a stove with a grill on the top which allowed people to both cook and heat their homes. The stove is commonly referred to as a Franklin Stove.

Benjamin’s father did not want him to go to sea, so instead he had Benjamin work as an apprentice printer for his brother James. Benjamin stated that his brother’s treatment of him was both harsh and tyrannical. He ran away in 1723 and made his way to Philadelphia. Not all ants sting. Wood ants and black ants spray formic acid.

There are over 12500 recognised species of ants.

All ants have six jointed legs. They have three body sections the abdomen, the thorax and the head.

Ants have a pair of antennae which they use for both touching and smelling objects.
